New combined carers service and telephone advice line for Leeds carers launched for Carers Week

Carers Week, Monday 9 to Sunday 15 June, celebrates and recognises the contribution of all of the UK’s 6.5 million unpaid carers. The UK-wide annual awareness campaign aims to improve the lives of carers and the people they care for. There are 70,000 unpaid carers in Leeds and some are missing out on support and services. A new service and telephone advice line, provided by Carers Leeds, will streamline services, making carers’ lives easier as they receive the most appropriate support. The contact was awarded by Leeds City Council.  Starting on June 10, this service brings together: Carers Leeds, an information, advice and support service, Touchstone – a support service for black and minority ethnic community carers, Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust (LYPFT) and Age UK Older Carers Support Service (OSS). The headquarters are in the centre of Leeds here

A new ‘one number, one service’ Carers Advice Line, will also be launched on the same day and will become the single point of telephone information for carers and professionals. Carers will now receive the support they need from the most appropriate member of staff. The new Carers Advice Line number is 0113 3804300

Val Hewison , CEO of Carers Leeds said:

“It is with great pleasure that we launch the new combined carer support service for Leeds in Carers Week. The new service has given us an opportunity to work in a collaborative way, delivering good quality information, advice and support and providing preventative services which will help families get crucial advice at an early stage. We will make sure we all work together to deliver this first class service that will effectively meet the needs of all carers and we will do this by always keeping the carer at the very heart of our service”.

During Carers Week, Carers Leeds staff will be out and about, available to answer any questions and give advice.
