Come on Leeds, let’s Wrap Up Winter!

As Christmas nears, we all get caught up in the seasonal festivities – Christmas shopping, the festive roast, exchanging gifts and spending valuable time with friends and loved ones. But for some people, the prospect of spending the holidays alone is the harsh reality.

Four older people will die every day in Leeds because of cold-related problems this winter. Shocking isn’t it? With rising fuel bills and the prospect of yet another cold winter, this bleak picture has huge implications for some of the most vulnerable people in our city. But thankfully, there are steps we can all take to be safer and warmer this winter.

As part of our ‘Wrap Up Winter’ campaign, we’re encouraging people to take some simple measures to protect their health and wellbeing. From layering up, to eating the right foods and staying active, it’s important to be prepared for what’s to come.

To get started, we’ve put together lots of information and advice on our website at including a factsheet with some helpful reminders for the holidays.

Why not share your tips with us on twitter using the #wrapupwinter or using the comment form below?

And remember the saying, ‘it’s better to give than to receive’ – we can all do our bit to make sure that neighbours and loved ones are safe this winter. It only takes a minute but it can make a big difference to someone’s life. Share your stories with us using #wrapupwinter.
