How one vision has gone from strength to strength for one of our smaller care providers.
In Adult Social Care in Leeds, we are keen to support enterprises that place excellence at the forefront of everything they do. Small businesses are critical components and major contributors to the strength of communities, supporting the local economy and employment. Here’s just one example of how one care provider, that we commission, has gone from strength to strength.
Established in January 2009 by co-owners Lucy Towers and Simon Wheeldon, Vive Social Care set the business up with one vision in mind:
‘When Simon and I started Vive Social Care 4 years ago, we were very much aware of the impact our service could have in making a difference to people’s lives. Not just the people we would look after, but giving family and friends the confidence and comfort in knowing we would support their loved ones in a dignified manner.
Yes we were a small business but that didn’t mean we weren’t committed to a shared vision of what we wanted to be. In fact, our vision came before we’d even considered the business case aspect! We knew back then, what we know now: we have a responsibility that we take very, very seriously, and anything short of excellence just isn’t good enough. It’s unacceptable. We know that; our staff know it and so do our clients. That’s perhaps why Adult Social Care commissioned our small business as one of their providers of care.’
In November 2010 Vive Social Care was awarded a place on the current framework agreement with Leeds City Council to provide domiciliary care services to individuals within the Leeds District. Throughout the tender and contract process, the Adult Social Care Commissioning team look for providers of a very high calibre and are open to building partnerships with small businesses in order to support growth.
As co-owner Simon Wheeldon states:
‘This contract has allowed Vive Social Care to grow and develop rapidly with the ability to offer local people stable jobs with opportunities for gaining further qualifications and promotion within the business.’
Our thanks got to Vive Social Care for sharing their experience as a small business and in helping to provide Better Lives for the People of Leeds.
